Sichuan Urban Development Project - South Western China

Providing support to the continuing rapid growth in the region, the Sichuan Urban Development Project (SUDP) is designed to provide basic infrastructure services to the residents of the four largest cities outside Chengdu in the western province of Sichuan. The four cities, Suining, Mianyang, Yibin and Panzhihua, are being assisted through a USD 180 million project to construct roads, bridges, drainage facilities, river training and flood protection works, water and waste water supplies and to develop new economic development zones in two of the four cities.

As part of the World Bank team, one of ITECO's staff reviewed feasibility studies, assessed the subprojects proposed and recommended some for carrying forward to the design phase, provided liaison between provincial and city authorities, assisted the consultants with their planning and design activities by providing expert advice in the areas of design concepts for roads and bridges, reviewed design outputs, estimates of cost and procurement documentation and collaborated in the preparation of the Project Appraisal Document to be presented to the World Bank Board of Directors for approval of the project. In the implementation phase monitoring of design and construction as well as provision of training in project management and contract administration were carried out.
