Malekhu - Dhading Nepal

The Malekhu - Dhading Besi Road Project, commenced with a study of the technical and economic feasibility of upgrading the 17.5 km long road leading from the national highway at Malekhu to the District HQ at Dhading Besi and continued with the design and construction supervision of the upgrading of the 17 km gravel / earth road from Malekhu (Prithvi Highway) to the district headquarters at Dhading Besi to a 3.5 m wide bituminous surfaced feeder road with 1 m wide shoulders. The project included the design and construction of a bridge of 60 m span at Bungchung Khola and the upgrading and replacement of the superstructure of the 110 m bridge over Trisuli River near Malekhu.

Services provided included:

Feasibility Study:

  • survey of existing road and structures;
  • technical assessment of alignment, river crossing, drainage, land stabilisation and road pavement options including economic evaluation of long-term priorities;
  • tender design of selected road and structures; and
  • recommendation for implementation procedures.

Engineering design and implementation:

  • preparation of all contracts, including tender procedures;
  • design of the roads (incl. pavement assessment) and the bridge substructure (excluding the bridge at Trisuli);
  • procurement of bridge superstructure (design and construction by the manufacturer);
  • transportation of the bridges to the site;
  • construction supervision and management for the road and bridges;
  • managerial and technical support to local consultants and training of local contractors; and
  • trust fund management.
