HydroPro Data Management System

An essential part of a modern monitoring system is a reliable and flexible data management system. To cover the needs of the Hydrometerological Service within Rimsys the hydrological data management system HydroPro was implemented.

The system was developed by the Swiss company A P Kern AG as a tool for the management, analysis and publication of the hydrological data of the Swiss Federal Administration and a number of Swiss cantonal institutions. A new module for the management of the water quality data was design by A P Kern to address the particular needs of the Water Quality Division.

HydroPro was implemented successfully and the staff involved in Rimsys (both the Hydrometeorological Service and the Water Quality Division) underwent comprehensive training in its use. The management system is now fully operational and the first yearbook sheets for hydrometry and water quality have been prepared and some of the information published.

The data management system is an ideal tool for the dissemination of hydrological and water quality data in Macedonia as well as for the international exchange of this information.

Reporting

The project intends to produce annual reports of data gathered in 2001 and 2002 and also to present, for the first time in a computerised form in Macedonia, data extending back 25 years for all the 18 monitoring stations included in the project. The data will be published not only in printed form but will also be available in electronic form on the internet, thereby allowing researchers, authorities and the general public to have access to the data and the analyses.
